What is living?
Hi, guys welcome to my another blog. This blog is about an often asked question which is"What is living?".So, let's get started.
According to Biology living is a process where an organism that shows distinctive characteristics such as growth, reproduction, the ability to sense the environment etc. The following facts will illustrate the physical manifestation of some living characters.
- All living organisms grow-
living organisms acquire materials from the environment and transform these into a form which is used to construct the cells. Every living organism begins life as a single cell. Unicellular organisms may stay as one cell but they grow too. Multicellular organisms did it by making more cells.
- All living organisms reproduce-
in Biology we can say it as procreation or breading. This is a biological process by which new individual organisms "offspring" are produced from their "parents" it is the fundamental feature of cell known life, each individual organisms exist as the result of reproduction. Reproduction is important for the survival of all living things. There are two main types of reproduction sexual and asexual. Usually, there are 4 types of sexual reproduction
- Allogamy
- Internal Fertilization
- External Fertilization
- Autogamy
The types of asexual reproduction vary greatly among different types of species.
- Spores
- Fission
- Vegetative reproduction
- Budding
- Fragmentation
3.living organisms metabolised-
The sum total of all the biochemical changes in the living body is called metabolism. Nutrition, respiration, excretion, circulation are all metabolic activities.
Metabolism is of two types-
- Anabolism- in this process the energy accumulated and it is constructive.
- Catabolism- in this the energy is released and it is destructive.
4. Movement and locomotion-
all forms of living organisms show some kind of movement. Even in case of higher plants which remain fixed with soil also exhibit movement. The movement of Protoplasm within the cells, the movement of stem towards the light, movement of the route towards the soil and monster is such example.
5.Definite pattern of life cycle-
all living organisms show definite pattern of life cycle from birth to death different. Living organisms have a different life period. Each living organisms after birth grow gradually and reproduce on maturity, the active phase continuous for certain period and gradually decrease and ultimately the organisms die.
